Dragon’s Dogma 2 – How To Romance Wilhelmina

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, and you’ll see just that in Dragon’s Dogma 2. That’s because there’s a particular quest where a certain character finally gets a chance at revenge. Here’s our guide on how to romance Wilhelmina in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Likewise, please be reminded that this article contains minor spoilers.

How to romance Wilhelmina in Dragon’s Dogma 2

The romance or affinity system in Dragon’s Dogma 2 generally involves giving gifts to NPCs. Some might even offer you discounts or give you freebies. In the case of Wilhelmina, however, you have to complete her personal quest: Every Rose Has Its Thorn.

As of the time of this writing, we’re uncertain as to what triggers the quest to start, but here’s what we did during our playthrough:

  • We already completed the main objectives in Vernworth, including An Unsettling Encounter, The Caged Magister, Nameless Village, and Stolen Throne.
  • In An Unsettling Encounter, we entered the castle to find proof of Minister Allard’s misdeeds. We tackled this quest well before we did the Stolen Throne mission.
  • During the Stolen Throne mission, we did not actually attend the masquerade ball. Instead, we walked at night along the right-hand side past the gates to the palace. That’s where Wilhelmina suddenly appeared.
  • To avoid arousing suspicions from guards, she and the Arisen started to kiss. She then gave us a card that granted access to the Rose Chateau Borderlie. We then completed the Stolen Throne cutscene and objectives related to the False Sovran.
  • The next time we were able to speak to Wilhelmina, we pressed the “Gift” button prompt in the middle of dialogue. We then gave her a Bunch of Flowers.

Looking for Wilhelmina

We can’t say for certain if the next quest step to romance Wilhelmina in Dragon’s Dogma 2 becomes available shortly after Stolen Throne. In our case, the next time we returned to Vernworth was much later in the campaign (i.e. when we were doing main quests in Bakbattahl).

When we did find ourselves in Vernworth again, we went to the Rose Chateau Borderlie. Here’s what you should know:

  • The attendant will say that Wilhelmina is busy with a client in one of the side rooms.
  • Enter Wilhelmina’s bedroom and look through the peephole (the same one you used during The Stolen Throne).
  • You’ll see Allard attempting to woo Wilhelmina, but she’ll turn down his advances.
  • After Allard leaves, Wilhelmina will speak with you. Offer your aid to her.
Watch a scene unfold through the peephole.

Finding evidence that implicates Allard

The goal now is to find evidence of Allard’s misdeeds:

  • You’ll find the evidence in a second-floor room in Allard’s Estate (i.e. it’s right next to the Borderlie).
  • It seems that Allard and his personal bodyguard will be in this room regardless of the time of day:
    • If you enter this room, you’ll get attacked.
    • If your pawns are with you, they’ll likely kill some NPCs, which will cause other guards in the city to imprison you.
  • We recommend switching to the Thief vocation so you can unlock and equip the Shadow Veil ability.
  • Tell your pawns to wait at the inn, then activate the ability and enter the Allard’s room. There’s a chance that Allard won’t even notice you, so you can go ahead and pick up the Murder Report on the desk.
  • Alternatively, you can tell your pawns to wait, rush inside the room to pick up the Murder Report, then dash back outside. The guard will lose interest after a while, and your pawns won’t accidentally kill someone.
  • In any case, give the Murder Report to Wilhelmina and wait for a day to pass.
Grab the Murder Report and high-tail it out of there.

Finishing the revenge plot

Return to Wilhelmina the next day and offer your aid once more. She’ll don a disguise and ask you to pin down Allard (who’s in the next room). You can do this by pressing the “Grab” button. After the cutscene, leap outside the window to escape.

Wilhelmina gets her revenge.

The Wilhelmina romance scene

To cap off the Wilhelmina romance in Dragon’s Dogma 2, there’s a short scene involving her and the Arisen. Once you’ve made your escape, wait a full day and return to Wilhelmina’s chamber in the Borderlie. There, she’ll plant a kiss on your character, which is then followed by an intimate scene.

And the Arisen gets Wilhelmina (for maybe 10 seconds).

This completes the Every Rose Has Its Thorn quest and the Wilhelmina romance in Dragon’s Dogma 2. For your efforts, you’ll receive 1,200 XP, 8,500 gold, and the Ring of Benevolence. The ring automatically recovers HP, albeit slowly, when you take a lot of damage in a single hit.

How to heal in Dragon’s Dogma 2

There are several ways to heal your character and party members. These include consumable flasks, healing spells, and other implements. But, before we discuss those in detail, let’s talk about the loss mechanic first.

The Loss Gauge

The Loss Gauge is a key mechanic in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Here’s a quick summary:

  • Health is represented by a green bar at the bottom of your screen (for your character) or on top of nameplates (pawns/NPCs).
  • Whenever you take damage, a portion of the bar will turn black to signify a “loss” in maximum HP. Another portion will appear grey, which means you can only heal up to that amount/threshold.
  • Maximum HP will also be lowered if:
    • Your character falls in battle and you revive at the last checkpoint/autosave (i.e. you do not use a Wakestone to revive).
    • Pawns fall in battle and you revive them.
  • You may only restore your maximum HP up to full if you sleep or use an Allheal Elixir.
Your maximum HP might be reduced temporarily for a variety of reasons outlined above.

Food, Salubrious Draught, Roborants, and other flasks

The most common healing method in Dragon’s Dogma 2 involves the use of consumable items. Examples include:

  • Fruits, fish, and dried meat – Can be selected from your inventory.
  • Salubrious Draught – Purchased from vendors, looted, or crafted. If you want to craft these flasks, you can do so by combining Greenwarish or Syrupwort Leaf with any kind of fruit.
  • Roborants – These can also be crafted by combining Greenwarish or Mornigtide with dried goods (i.e. meats, fish, or fruits).
  • Allheal Elixir – This very rare type of curative restores all your HP and stamina to full (including max HP loss). It also removes negative status effects.
Be sure to have plenty of restorative flasks in your inventory.

Healing spells

It’s always a good idea to have a Mage in your party. That’s because this particular vocation has access to the following abilities:

  • Core skill: Anodyne – Creates a magical aura that gradually heals allies. The restorative effect persists for several seconds even if you only pass through the aura.
  • Weapon skill: Argent Succor – This is an advanced form of Argent Tonic, and it heals a single target over a period of time.
Healing spells from Mages are invaluable.

Resting at an inn

Resting at an inn costs gold, but you might as well pay the cost since this fully recovers even lost max HP. Moreover, innkeepers allow you to store items that you don’t need at the moment, which helps manage inventory and carry weight. If you don’t want to shell out cash all the time, you could opt to purchase your own house instead.

Pony up the dough to make use of inns.

Resting at a campsite

We can’t stress this enough, but you should always have at least a couple of Camping Kits with you. That’s because you’ll travel along dangerous roads for prolonged periods, and you’ll likely be in need of rest and recuperation. Camping Kits allow you to use campsites that you see in the wilderness. You can even cook beast meats to gain buffs.

Note that it’s possible to get attacked while you’re at a campsite. When this occurs, the Camping Kit that you just used might get destroyed. However, if you’re using higher-tier variants (i.e. Sand-Patterned or Elite), then you won’t need to worry too much.

Have a cookout with your pawn pals.

Resting at the hot springs

Lastly, it’s possible to rest at the hot springs in Agamen Volcanic Island, which is all the way at the southern part of the world map. Although this only restores your HP up to the grey threshold, you do receive an attack buff.

The hot springs offer a cure to your ailments.
