Persona 6’s Main Color Might Have Leaked

We might already know what the main color scheme for Persona 6 is, and it could confirm a fan theory.

According to Midori, a prominent Sega and Atlus leaker, the main color for Persona 6 is green. They took to social media to share that Persona 6 reportedly started development in 2019 along with Persona 3 Reload and Persona 5 Tactica.

During Persona’s 25th anniversary, Sega released new artwork to commemorate the occasion. There was a particular one that depicted all of the protagonists across the entire series standing against a wall with graffiti. On the ground next to the Persona 5 protagonist is a bucket of green paint, which fans have speculated could be the main color of Persona 6.

Midori claims that the exact shade of green in the paint bucket is the same one being used for Persona 6, seemingly confirming that fan theory.

Sega and Atlus have not announced Persona 6, but given that Persona 5 was a big hit, a new mainline entry is bound to be revealed at some point. So far this year, Atlus has released Persona 3 Reload and published Vanillaware’s Unicorn Overlord. This Fall, Atlus is launching its new IP, Metaphor ReFantazio. So it might be a little longer until we actually see Persona 6.

EA’s Iron Man Developer Now Working On Battlefield, Too

EA’s Motive Studios, which is working on a new Iron Man game, is now assisting DICE in developing the future of the Battlefield franchise. This doesn’t mean the Iron Man game is taking a back seat, though, as Motive GM Patrick Klaus said in a blog post that the game remains a priority for the studio and that it recently passed a development milestone.

Klaus said “a group” of developers from Motive are now working with DICE, Criterion, and Ripple Effect to creating experiences that lead to the “full potential of Battlefield.” Motive joining the Battlefield team comes not long after EA closed Battlefield co-developer Ridgeline Games.

Specifically, the lead developers on the 2023 Dead Space remake, Philippe Ducharme Roman and Campos-Oriola, are building a team within Motive to make “what’s next for Battlefield” across multiplayer and single-player.

As for the Iron Man game, Klaus said the team at Motive has made “excellent progress” in 2024, reaching a “major internal milestone” and “laying a robust foundation for the journey ahead.”

“Iron Man is an important priority for Motive, and I’m very proud of the work we’ve accomplished so far,” Klaus said.

In another blog post, Battlefield GM Byron Beede said Battlefield 2042’s Season 7, which released in March, will be the game’s final season. DICE will continue to support the game with in-game challenges, events, modes, and ongoing maintenance, but “we are moving away from delivering official seasons,” Beede said.

“We know this news may be disappointing. However, as we looked at what the future of the series required, it became clear it was time for us to shift our resources and focus to be fully dedicated to what comes next,” he said.

Battlefield 2042 had a difficult launch in November 2021, but it was still the No. 5 best-selling game of that year in the US. EA blamed working from home, among other things, for contributing to Battlefield 2042’s rocky launch.

Xbox Is Moving “Full Speed Ahead” On Next-Gen Hardware

Microsoft is hard at work on the next generation of Xbox hardware, after it had already confirmed that Xbox consoles would not be ending any time soon.

According to emails acquired by Windows Central and confirmed to be genuine from Microsoft, Xbox president Sarah Bond said, “We are moving full speed ahead on our next generation hardware, focused on delivering the biggest technological leap ever in a generation.”

Back in February, Bond expressed similar sentiments about how massive the technical gap for the next generation of Xbox will be. However, she stopped at mentioning any specifics such as the hardware itself or the release window.

Bond also said to expect new Xbox Series hardware this year, and images of a white digital-only Xbox Series X were leaked recently. So it’s a possibility that it might be part of Microsoft’s plans. Microsoft is also reportedly working on an Xbox handheld.

Xbox has also established a new team dedicated to game preservation and forward compatibility, and that more information about it could be revealed at the Xbox Showcase on June 9.

While it may seemingly be too early to think about the next generation of consoles, Sony mentioned earlier this year that PlayStation 5 is now in the latter stage of its life cycle. This means that the Xbox Series X|S is as well, given that both consoles were released in 2020.

Witness Exactly When Nintendo 3DS Online Services Shut Down

It’s no longer possible to play Mario Kart 7 against others across the world, as Nintendo has officially ended online support for 3DS and Wii U. In fact, one player was racing on Rainbow Road as Mario when the service shut down. That meant they couldn’t reach the finish line and complete their last race.

On X (formerly known as Twitter), a user who goes by Jerm-X “captured the moment the 3DS online [service] shut down” by sharing video footage of their race in Mario Kart 7. Jerm-X had just picked up a trio of green shells as Mario as well as sped into first place when the screens on the handheld went black. Then, the bottom screen revealed that online communication had been disrupted.

In October, Nintendo announced that 3DS and Wii U online services would shut down on April 8. Along with Mario Kart 7, other notable online-centric games that no longer will let you play against others over the internet include Splatoon, Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U, and Animal Crossing: New Leaf.

Over a year ago, Nintendo ended eShop purchases on 3DS and Wii U, meaning players haven’t been able to buy digital content on those systems for a while now. With online support ending, too, both platforms are fully offline experiences. The only exception for now is Pokemon Bank and Poke Transporter.

Nintendo has offered new online support through old games via Nintendo Switch Online, though the service doesn’t feature 3DS or Wii U games as part of its catalog. This topic is important to Microsoft, as Xbox has put together a new team focused on game preservation.

Borderlands Director Praises Cate Blanchett’s Crazy Turn As Lilith

Beyond The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, as well as Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Cate Blanchett doesn’t have many genre films in her previous credits. But she’s adding another one this summer in the live-action adaptation of the Borderlands video games. And according to director Eli Roth, audiences aren’t prepared to see some of the things that Blanchett did while embracing her inner action heroine as Lilith.

“You’ve seen [Blanchett] twirling the baton [in Tár], but you haven’t seen her twirling guns behind her back,” said Roth during an interview with Empire. “She’s a master at it. A big part of the fun of the movie is watching it and thinking, ‘I can’t believe they all did this crazy stuff.’ Cate with a flame-thrower–a real flame-thrower–come on! That’s pretty badass.”

Roth also revealed that one of Blanchett’s personal favorite films helped influence her take on Lilith.

“She loves Escape From New York,” noted Roth. “It’s her favorite movie. But nobody would know that because why would you ask her about Escape From New York when you’re interviewing her about Lydia Tár?” He also said that the film was Blanchett’s opportunity to “do this incredible kind of Kurt Russell [character]”.

Blanchett is headlining Borderlands opposite Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Edgar Ramírez, Ariana Greenblatt, Florian Munteanu, Gina Gershon, and Jamie Lee Curtis, Borderlands will hit theaters on August 9.

27,000 Call Of Duty Cheaters Were Banned This Past Weekend

Activision has announced that 27,000 Call of Duty cheaters were banned over the weekend across Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone. In a statement, anti-cheat Team Ricochet attributed the ban wave to upgrades to its detection technology, with more bans still to come as new improvements are implemented.

The massive wave of bans was reported by Charlie Intel on X, which includes a statement from Team Ricochet. “Team Ricochet identified and banned over 27,000 accounts over the weekend through a series of upgraded detection systems. The team is progressing on a new set of security updates and anticipates more ban waves to come.”

Team Ricochet gave an in-depth update on its anti-cheat plans last year in the lead-up to Modern Warfare 3’s release, saying it planned to use machine learning to improve detection and removal of cheaters in COD titles. Activision also revealed that it banned 80,000 cheating accounts in the lead-up to MW3’s release, ensuring those accounts wouldn’t be able to access the new title on launch.

The most recent wave of bans comes soon after the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone’s third seasons, with Warzone bringing back fan-favorite map Rebirth Island. Both COD titles are also gearing up for 4/20, with a variety of weed-themed bundles and game modes included in Season 3.

COD: Details On Canceled Live-Service Zombies Standalone Game Revealed

A former Call of Duty developer at Raven Software has spilled the beans on a cancelled project from 2011, which would have been a live-service game entirely focused on COD’s popular Zombies mode. While the project was said to be in pre-production between 2011 and 2012, it was reportedly cancelled likely due to fear of competition with the main line games.

Former Raven developer Michael Gummelt appeared in an interview with COD YouTuber Glitching Queen, after the cancelled Zombies title was revealed through his LinkedIn page. Gummelt revealed that the project was codenamed Project Zed, and was intended to be a free-to-play game supported by microtransactions, inspired by Raven’s experience with developing and supporting the China-only live service title Call of Duty Online.

Now Playing: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III | ‘Zombies’ Intel Drop Gameplay Trailer

Gummelt says that the project started when Zombies was handed off to Raven Software, due to Treyarch being unsure if it wanted to move forward with the mode. Gummelt explains that he was assigned lead designer on the project due to having prior experience designing Zombie modes for Call of Duty Online–even if they ended up being shipped as “Cyborgs” due to China’s censorship laws.

Gummelt got as far as writing a design document for the game, outlining a four-player co-op title with a full world map. Players would have started as a gladiator in a Mad Max-style arena fighting zombies, later making their escape to explore the game’s full post-apocalyptic world.

“It was kind of like Mad Max meets COD Zombies,” Gummelt explains. Part of his design document for the project is revealed in the video, with one line calling it a “fun, campy, and experimental Zombie game.”

Unfortunately for Zombies fans, the project was cancelled before the project could get into active development. While Gummelt says he never got an absolute answer on why, he got the impression that it was due to Treyarch wanting to use Zombies again without competition from a free-to-play Zombies title.

In the interview, Gummelt also talks about his experience working as a lead designer on Warzone, which was directly inspired by an early battle royale mode he developed for Call of Duty Online called BattleCity.

Back in 2015, former Zombies mode director Jason Blundell claimed a standalone Zombies title wouldn’t work for the Call of Duty franchise, explaining that most players like the flexibility to choose from different modes in the game.
