HBO’s Eastbound & Down Returning For “One More Inning” In 2024

HBO’s hit comedy Eastbound & Down, featuring Danny McBride as Kenny Powers–everyone’s favorite foul-mouthed washed-up underdog baseball star–is coming back for “one more inning” in 2024 according to a teaser trailer that just hit the internet. On YouTube, the return is being described as an “all-new special,” which means it’s unlikely the show will be returning for a full season.

The sports comedy first debuted on HBO in 2009 and first announced it would be ending in 2012 with Season 3. However, the network and creative team both surprised audiences with a sudden announcement as Season 3 was ending that the show would return in 2013 for an eight-episode Season 4. Now, nearly a full decade later, the show about the unlikely comeback of the former professional baseball pitcher is itself making an unlikely comeback. Check out the teaser below, which features Steve Little’s Stevie character–the perfect groveling foil to Powers–digging deep to give an unseen character a pep talk.

In 2021, McBride was reportedly working with HBO Max on adapting and developing the Garbage Pail Kids–the popular ’80s sticker trading cards intended to parody the then popular Cabbage Patch Kids–for a revival animated series. It’s unclear what that show’s status is, as over the summer HBO Max has dumped more than 36 titles from its platform and also made other noticeable cuts to its line-up of animated shows.
