LOTR: Rings of Power Season 2 Will Pick Up The Pace

Faster. Bigger. These are just two of the descriptions Amazon is placing on The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power for the second season of the fantasy series. Vernon Sanders, who is head of global TV for Amazon Studios, recently opened up about what to expect when the show returns.

Speaking to Deadline, Sanders responded to a question about lessons learned from the first season and how they’re using that knowledge going forward with The Rings of Power. “We are going to be faster,” he said. “We are going to be able to put more money on screen, just in terms of the scale and scope of what we’re doing now that we know how to do it.

“And I also think the pace of our story is going to increase in part because the story is demanding that now that everyone’s been established, the stakes are established, that we’re going to watch some characters in some lands go to war.”

War obviously means battles, with Sanders hyping them up for the next season. “Yes, I can say you will see bigger battles in Season 2, including some iconic moments from the appendices and the books,” he said.

This all comes in addition to previously hearing The Rings of Power Season 2 will be “more intense” and “scarier.” The newest season started production in October, with a huge shift in shooting location. Instead of filming in New Zealand like the first season and original trilogy, the show is being shot in the UK. The change reportedly comes down to costs as well as Amazon trying to create a multi-show hub in London.

The Rings of Power has apparently “more than paid off” for Amazon. The fantasy series has already reached 100 million people globally. For more, check out GameSpot’s Rings of Power review for the first two episodes.
