Star Wars: Skeleton Crew’s Kerry Condon Praises Show’s Younger Cast

Star Wars: The Acolyte may be coming up fast, but it’s not the only live-action show in the franchise coming this year. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is also slated to debut in 2024, with Kerry Condon and Jude Law appearing in a story set in The Mandalorian’s era that focuses on four young characters who find themselves lost in space and unable to get home. During a new interview with Variety, Condon praised her younger co-stars in the series, as well as the creative team behind the scenes.

“It’s so great,” said Condon. “I don’t even have kids, but I’d pay to see this. I loved it. I loved being on it. There was something about it that was so innocent and playful and lovely. People say don’t work with kids or animals, but I don’t know about that. And also when children are good actors, they’re kind of out-of-this-world good. So watching some of the kids’ scenes, it was amazing. Jude Law’s in it and I’ve worked with him before.”

“It’s really adventurous and they got such great directors for each episode,” added Condon. “The Daniels, Bruce Dallas Howard, Lee Isaac Cheung, David Lowery. It was a pretty amazing group. And of course, Jon Watts who created the whole thing.”

The announced cast members for Skeleton Crew include Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Robert Timothy Smith, Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Kyriana Kratter, Tunde Adebimpe, and Jaleel White. Disney+ will premiere Star Wars: Skeleton Crew later this year.

Fallout 4’s Next-Gen Upgrade Has Some Big Issues, Report Shows

The Fallout 4 next-gen upgrade finally released this April in the wake of a renewed wave of interest in the franchise thanks to Amazon’s TV adaptation, but not all players are satisfied with the update. Digital Foundry has now gone through all the changes across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, to see where the update shines, but mostly where it falls flat.

While the update is focused on consoles, it notably added 21:9 ultrawide support on PC, but the feature has plenty of bugs, and generally is not as well-implemented as it could have been. Parts of the UI have simply been stretched from the standard 16:9 version, while other UI elements have visual bugs in the ultrawide view.

Now Playing: Playing Fallout 4 In 2024

On console, the PS5 comes out the winner, with more meaningful improvements out of the upgrade. Bethesda’s patch notes say consoles get two main graphics modes out of the update: the standard performance mode, which runs at 4K and 60fps with standard graphics settings, and a 4K 30fps mode running the equivalent to the PC’s ultra preset. You can also choose to toggle 1440p and 120Hz modes.

Digital Foundry notes that the Xbox Series X currently only runs one graphics mode, however–the standard 60fps performance mode. While you can toggle this on or off, it doesn’t actually change anything in the Xbox’s graphical output. While Xbox players have raised this as a bug, Bethesda tweets have indicated that the update is performing as anticipated. The Xbox Series S version of the game operates similarly, however its performance mode runs a dynamic range between 1080p and 1440p rather than targeting 4K.

Because the game is stuck in performance mode, Digital Foundry points out that multiple visual settings controlling the level of detail in background elements such as foliage, objects, and terrain are actually now lower-quality than they were when playing the Xbox One version of the game on Xbox Series X pre-patch.

The patch holds up a little better on PS5 with all modes actually functioning as intended, including the 1440p and 120Hz modes–neither of which appear to work on the Xbox Series X version either. While the PS5’s 4K 30fps mode gets closer to what you would expect from a PC ultra setting, the quality of elements like shadows and draw distance still aren’t quite as high as you might expect.

On the positive side, both consoles are relatively reliable with hitting 4K 60fps in performance mode, something that was only previously achievable with mods, while the Xbox Series S hitting 60fps in 1440p is also a marked improvement.

The recent Fallout 4 update, which has been called a next-gen upgrade despite the fact that the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are now over three years old, was messy from launch, with an early bug preventing PS Plus Extra and Premium players from accessing the free upgrade. The update has also been unpopular with PC players, largely due to compatibility issues with mods. A mod that reverts the game to its pre-upgraded state has become popular on Nexus Mods, as has one that stops Steam from downloading the update in the first place.

Nintendo Switch Successor Will Be Revealed By April 2025

Nintendo has announced that the successor for the Switch will be revealed within this fiscal year, which ends in April 2025.

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa took to the Nintendo’s Japanese Twitter account, saying, “We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year. It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015.”

He also said that there will be a Nintendo Direct presentation this June showcasing content for the latter half of 2024, but it won’t contain any information about the Nintendo Switch successor.

There were rumors that the Switch successor was going to launch sometime this year, but recent reports suggest that it was pushed back to 2025 instead.

The device will reportedly have magnetic Joy-Con controllers rather than the rail-equipped ones that the current Switch uses. However, the Pro controller is expected to be backwards compatible with the successor.

Stephen King’s The Dark Tower Graphic Novel Omnibuses Are 50% Off

Stephen King has published over 60 novels in his 50-year career as the most recognizable name in horror. Most of King’s books are standalone works, though he has penned a few series, including The Dark Tower. By far King’s longest story, The Dark Tower comprises eight books released over a 30-year stretch starting in 1982. In 2007, Marvel began adapting The Dark Tower into comic books. Although the adaptation was eventually canceled before reaching its proper conclusion, fans of original novels will still find lots to love in what was released. Publisher Gallery 13 recognized this and re-released the comics in hardcover omnibus format late last year. All three of The Dark Tower comic omnibuses are on sale for steep discounts at Amazon.

The Dark Tower Graphic Novel Omnibus Deals

The Dark Tower series features a compelling mix of high fantasy, science fiction, and horror. But at its most basic premise, The Dark Tower is a traditional hero’s journey. Set in the post-apocalyptic Mid-World, the story follows Roland Rechain’s quest for the eponymous tower and the Man in Black, a powerful dark sorcerer. The novels often jump across time periods and different worlds, but the graphic novels, for the most part, are more linear, which gives them a more intimate reading experience that can be interesting to both longtime readers and Dark Tower newcomers.

The Dark Tower: Beginnings Omnibus may be of particular note for longtime fans of the series. Essentially a prequel, this hardcover omnibus contains five graphic novels chronicling Roland Deschain of Gilead’s coming-of-age story that led to him becoming the last gunslinger. It covers and expands upon Roland’s backstory as alluded to in flashbacks and conversations throughout the series. Although King himself didn’t write the comics, he served as the creative supervisor on the project. Clocking in at 800 pages, The Dark Tower: Beginnings Omnibus is only $49. Considering it was still selling for $100 at times earlier this year, this is a pretty awesome deal.

The other two omnibuses–The Gunslinger and The Drawing of the Three–are named after the first two books in the series. While they cover the same major plot points as their novel counterparts, the comics also cover new ground that many fans would find interesting, even if you recently read the novels themselves.

The Gunslinger Omnibus is 736 pages, while The Drawing of the Three comes in at 464 pages. All three hardcover volumes contain gorgeous artwork drawn by a team of illustrators.

As mentioned, you would be able to enjoy The Dark Tower graphic novels without prior knowledge of the series. That said, you’ll probably have a more fulfilling experience with these giant tomes if you first made your way through the original novels. It’s quite the undertaking at over 4,000 pages in all, but it is well-worth the time for fantasy and science fiction fans. You don’t have to be a fan of King’s traditional horror novels to have fun with The Dark Tower.

You can get a box set of trade paperback editions of all eight Dark Tower novels for $85 at Amazon from a third-party seller. Buying the set directly from Amazon will cost you $100 (list price is $161).

The Dark Tower features numerous characters you’ll find in other King novels. Fan-favorite characters appearing in seemingly unrelated novels has been a staple of King’s career. In fact, there’s a very interesting parallel between The Dark Tower and The Stand, the 1978 King novel that’s seen by many as his best work. The Stand is a doorstopper in its own right–even by Stephen King standards. It’s the longest standalone novel of King’s career; the current paperback edition, which you can get for $15 at Amazon, is 1,200 pages.

Stephen King’s next book, a collection of short stories titled You Like It Darker, releases on May 21. You can preorder a hardcover copy of You Like It Darker for $19, down from $30, at Amazon.
