Destiny 2’s Next PvE Mode Is Onslaught, A Defensive Showdown In The Last City

Ahead of the release of Destiny 2‘s upcoming Into the Light story event, Bungie showed off a new PvE activity debuting inside of it next month. Onslaught is a new three-player mode with a defensive flavor, as players will establish a beachhead in the Last City before they journey into the Traveler in The Final Shape expansion.

With every Guardian preparing to take on The Witness, humanity and its allies will be left defenseless against the hostile forces inside the Sol system. That’s where the Advanced Defense Unit comes into play, as this mobile forge can build structures to help keep the armies of the Witness at bay. In Onslaught, players will defend the ADU while it gets to work, with this activity playing out in multiple waves.

Up to 50 waves of escalating challenge can be taken on, and to shake things up, Guardians will venture into a Pyramid ship after a set number of waves for an offensive push against a challenging boss. When the focus is on the ADU, players can spend the new Scrap currency to set up and upgrade defensive structures in contested territory, like turrets, trip mines, and decoys. Bungie showed off some of the gameplay inside of the Midtown map–usually reserved for PvP activity–and this activity will feature Crucible leader Lord Shaxx as the primary vendor.

To make things more challenging, players can expect to encounter Champions and will be tested with bonus objectives that offer greater rewards but will pull them farther away from the ADU as enemies close in on it. Bungie plans to host two more livestreams this month, and you can tune in on the following dates to watch them. As a reminder, anyone watching can earn the “Those Held Dear” emblem by watching a livestream for at least 30 minutes, and watching for two hours in total will unlock the “Echo Diamond” emblem.

Into the Light will go live on April 9 alongside Update 7.3.6, and it’ll add new story content throughout April and May. Meanwhile, Destiny 2 players can purchase Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire cosmetics, just in case they want to tour the strangest parts of the galaxy in a spaceship inspired by the Ecto-1 car.

Music Legend K.K. Slider Announces Lego Animal Crossing Tour

Lego has revealed the latest character to join the Animal Crossing collaboration. Starting on August 1, people will be able to collect the legendary artist known as K.K. Slider.

The news comes the official Lego X/Twitter account where it posted a video of Slider jamming out, and it reads:

“K.K. is bringing some extra groove to the LEGO Animal Crossing range from August 1!”

Based on the video it appears that Slider will be a part of a set that includes the town hall from the game. There’ll also be another set inspired by Dodo Airlines.

It is worth mentioning that even though Slider is known for his voice and guitar-playing skills, he won’t be able to move or sing. In the video, LEGO made it a point to have the words ” K.K. minifigure doesn’t actually sing or move” at the bottom, meaning that the company has stripped him–and all earthkind–of his greatest gift. Even though Slider will be without a voice, he’ll still look great in any Animal Crossing set.

LEGO originally announced the Animal Crossing crossover late last year, but people weren’t able to buy any sets until a few weeks ago in March. There are various sets people can purchase, some of which include Isabelle’s House Visit, Kapp’n’s Island Boat Tour, Crossing Bunnie’s Outdoor Activities, and many more.

It’s also worth noting that Animal Crossing isn’t the only collaboration LEGO has had this year. Early this month, LEGO teamed up with Wizards of the Coast to create a massive Dungeons & Dragons set. The set includes iconic D&D monsters such as The Beholder, Gelatinous Cube, and the Owlbear.

Manor Lords Is Coming To Xbox, But Not Confirmed Yet For PlayStation

Manor Lords, the medieval strategy game made by one person, is crushing it on Steam where it’s the top-selling game overall and inside the top 10 for most-played with more than 138,000 concurrent players. And this is to say nothing of its performance on PC Game Pass. Given the huge amount of interest in the game, many might be wondering if it’s coming to console.

The game’s developer said on social media that he is working with publisher Hooded Horse on an Xbox version. As of late March, the developer said work would commence “as soon as possible.” As for a potential PS5 edition, the developer said, “We’re still talking about it.” There is no word yet on a possible console edition of Manor Lords for Nintendo Switch.

Now Playing: Manor Lords – Official Medieval City Builder/RTS Launch Trailer

Again, these posts were published on March 24, so it’s possible things have changed since then. However, given the success of Manor Lords so far on PC, it makes sense that there might be a financial motivation on the publisher’s part to expand the game to a bigger audience by way of a console edition. Keep checking back with GameSpot for the latest.

In a post celebrating the launch of Manor Lords, the game’s developer said on Reddit that they want people to leave reviews, whether they’re enjoying the game or not. The game is available through Early Access/Game Preview, and the developer wants to gather feedback.

“Most players don’t leave reviews. Or worse, people who had a bug will leave a negative review, while people who just had a great, good or even OK time, won’t leave a review. Please leave a review,” the developer said. “And I understand it’s going to be a mix of positives and negatives especially in that first month. I’m prepared! The game is early access for a reason and I’m very confident that it will only get better. I promise to work hard.”

Manor Lords is available at a 25% discount for the first two weeks, dropping the price down to $30. PC Game Pass users, meanwhile, can play the game as part of their membership.

Fallout 4 Crucible: How To Get The Heavy Incinerator

There are a couple of new weapons available in Fallout 4 following the release of the next-generation update. One of them is the Tesla Cannon, which is looted through the Best of Three quest as well as the Echoes of the Past quest, giving you two chances to acquire it. The other weapon is the Heavy Incinerator, which is only obtainable through completing the Crucible quest.

To see exactly how to start and finish the Crucible quest in Fallout 4 so you can wield the Heavy Incinerator, take a look at the guide below.

Starting the Crucible quest in Fallout 4

First off, if your character has already progressed through some of the story in Fallout 4, the Crucible quest and all the other next-gen update content should be immediately available after downloading the update. However, players on new saves have to reach a specific point in the story before they can partake in all of the fresh content.

Approaching Saugus Ironworks

In any case, once you can start the Crucible quest, track it in your quest log. You’ll see that your first objective is to investigate Saugus Ironworks, located on the map’s eastern side, just south of The Slog. Upon reaching Saugus Ironworks, you’ll have to deal with a few enemies out in front of the building. Once they’ve been dispatched, head inside and defeat some more enemies that are located on the ground floor and on the platforms that go across the interior of the building.

Your goal inside is to reach a door on the upper level that’s locked via a terminal. Hack into the terminal to open the door and then find an enemy named the Forged Keeper. Defeat the Forged Keeper, who’s wielding a Flamer, and loot their body to find the Forged Keeper’s Note.

After reading the note, you’ll learn that the Forged acquired the Incinerator and tested it on their new recruits. The Keeper also scolded one of the recruits for trying to cheat the testing, and they said they put the evidence against this cheating recruit in a toolbox upstairs. When you read the note, a new quest marker appears that leads you to this toolbox, which requires Expert Lockpicking to get inside.

Killing the Forged Keeper

The toolbox contains a note from the cheating recruit, explaining that they tried to use some flame-resistant power armor legs not to get burnt by the Incinerator. The recruit says they buried the power armor legs below the crucible in the ironworks building. To get beneath the crucible, make sure you loot the Smelter Console Password from the toolbox and then head down to the ground floor to press the Molten Metal Flow Control button. You can also step into the Raider Power Armor suit that’s located behind the button and then go back upstairs to the Smelter Terminal.

Use the Smelter Console Password at the terminal and move the crucible from its resting place. This makes the crucible move forward on the ground floor and reveals the spot where the recruit hid the power armor legs. However, the recruit only managed to hide the blueprints for the flame-resistant power armor legs, meaning you need to craft the mod for each leg.

Fortunately, you can use the nearby power armor station on your new Raider Power Armor to build and attach the flame resistant legs. Just go over to the station, hop out of your power armor, press the “Craft” button on the station, and then go down to the right and left legs. Here, you can attach the flame resistance mod in the “Misc Mod” section. Don’t worry about the crafting materials for the flame-resistant leg mod, as the game automatically lets you craft it for each power armor leg.

With your new legs attached to the power armor suit, head over to the open smelter on the other side of the room, dip your toes into the flames, retrieve the Incinerator hanging by a chain, and get out. If you try to go into the smelter without using the flame-resistant power armor legs, you die instantly.

For example, if you want your number row to have short actuation so your abilities fire off quickly, you can do that.

Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro

The Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro isn’t just one of the newest keyboards on this list–it’s also one of the most expensive. But if you’re willing to up your budget, you’ll get a laundry list of high-end features that make the V4 more than worthy of the iconic BlackWidow name.

As usual, the BlackWidow V4 Pro was built to the high standards of Razer, which means you’re getting doubleshot ABS keycaps, per-key RGB lighting, and even a magnetic plush wrist rest with an underglow effect. But what makes the V4 Pro so compelling it its set of macro keys and the command dial.

These customizable components make it easy to quickly control your on-screen action without having to wade through a series of menus. All told, you’ll have eight macro keys along with four dedicated media keys–so you should have no problem programming the keyboard to fit your needs.

Toss in an aluminum chassis, the option for yellow or green switches, and USB passthrough, and it’s easy to see why the BlackWidow V4 Pro is an excellent, feature-rich gaming keyboard. Wireless mechanical keyboards are hard to come by, since there are so few options available. That’s not the only reason why we recommend the Logitech G613, though. Input latency is at the top of concerns, but that’s been largely solved as seen with wireless gaming mice, and Logitech adapts its “Lightspeed” tech found in its mice for the G613. It’s also a fantastic budget gaming keyboard.

The G613 is a full-size keyboard in every sense. It features a built-in plastic wrist rest, which is handy, but not detachable. There are six programmable macro keys on the left side of the keyboard and a suite of media controls at the top-right, too. Most importantly, the G613 stands among the great mechanical keyboards out there because of its fast response and accurate mechanical switches. It only comes with Romer-G tactile switches, which isn’t so bad because these provide all the benefits of a mechanical switch like smooth, consistent keystrokes.

While you’ll need to stock up on AA batteries, the G613 is quite efficient, lasting up to 18 months according to Logitech–it’s so efficient, we’re not even talking in hours anymore. It’d be pretty annoying to swap out batteries for a keyboard every few months, so this is key. A reason why battery life last this long is because one common feature has been left behind: backlit keys. Keys are painted in a vibrant white that helps visibility, but of course it’s not the same as proper backlighting.

Considering its feature set and the fact that it’s wireless, the Logitech G913 is a bargain. Plus it’s almost always on sale nowadays. The prospect a wireless gaming keyboard may not be as appealing as a wireless mouse (you’re not constantly moving a keyboard around and dragging a cord after all), but those who want to cut the cord without sacrificing keyboard quality have a great option here.

Designed with keycaps that resemble laptop keys, the Corsair K100 Air Wireless is radically smaller than most other keyboards on this list, and it’s a great option for someone that wants a board that both functions at a high level yet looks incredible on their desktop.

Cherry MX Ultra Low Profile mechanical switches are the star of the show, offering the short activation distance of just 0.8mm. Each key also features RGB backlighting with adaptive brightness that varies based on the light levels in your room. And beyond your standard QWERTY keys, you’ll also benefit from dedicated media keys and an aluminum volume roller.

You won’t have to worry about running out of juice for the wireless keyboard either, as it can run for 50 hours on a single charge–and that bumps all the way to 200 if you turn off the backlights. All these features come at a price, and the K100 Air gets pretty close to $300. But if you need something sleek with tons of functionality, it simply can’t be beat.

As mentioned earlier, the SteelSeries Apex Pro comes in multiple size options, so if the full-size variant of our favorite gaming keyboard is too big, then a smaller variant like the Apex Pro TKL is worth considering. This version shares all the same core features as its full-size sibling but uses an 80% or “TKL” (tenkeyless) layout that lacks the num pad, which makes it our top recommendation for keyboards of this size. As you’ll see from our other picks, there are multiple keyboard sizes smaller than the traditional 96-key layout. TKLs are great for players who want to maximize desk space but want to keep the arrow keys and F row that are commonly removed from smaller-sized options.

If you’re keen on the Apex Pro’s looks and features, but the TKL model still isn’t quite small enough, the Apex Pro Mini is also worth considering.

The Strix Scope II 96 Wireless is classified as a “96%” keyboard, which means it features the full 96-key layout found on standard-sized gaming keyboards–plus media controls and additional multi-function buttons–with dimensions closer an 80% frame. Luckily, these slim devices include many of the same features as their larger counterparts, and the ASUS Azoth in particular offers some of the most customization for a keyboard of this category. The Azoth uses hot-swappable ROG NX switches, and each key can be customized with programmable macro functions and per-key RGB backlighting in the Armoury Crate desktop app. The keyboard offers multiple connection types, including 2.4Ghz wireless, Bluetooth, and wired USB on Windows and MacOS. Unfortunately, the integrated OLED display and RGB backlighting only work while using the keyboard in Bluetooth or wired USB modes, and the customization software only works on Windows. Such restrictions are common on other wireless keyboards, but worth keeping in mind for Mac users and competitive players that prefer 2.4Ghz wireless connections.

Wooting’s 60HE does everything you’d want from an ultra-compact gaming keyboard for Windows, Mac, or Linux. The 60% key layout makes for a small footprint on your desk, and the included carrying strap and durable, liquid-resistant materials make it super portable. The smaller size doesn’t affect its performance at all–in fact, the Wooting 60HE packs hard-to-find features that make it one of the fastest and most accurate gaming keyboards available. The keyboard sports linear Lekker Hall effect switches with customizable actuation points between 0.1mm and 4mm–which makes for fast key activation–and uses parallel per-key scanning to read inputs, which is more accurate than the matrix scanning often used on other keyboards. The Wooting 60HE also has an optional “Tachyon mode” which speeds up analog per-key scanning to less than 1ms per ms. While this mode disables the keyboard’s RGB backlighting effect, that’s a fair tradeoff for even better accuracy and lower input latency.

The 60HE’s specs are impressive, and easily make it one of the best-performing keyboards of any size, but its baseline ergonomics are a common complaint. A wrist pad is available as an additional purchase that mitigates this issue, but that just makes the already expensive keyboard even more costly. That drawback is exacerbated by Wooting’s shipping methods. Wooting is a small company that operates on batch-based distribution, meaning it could take several weeks for your order to arrive. However, if you’re willing to pay and deal with potentially long shipping times, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better-performing keyboard in this category.

While the 8BitDo Retro Keyboard sports a classic color scheme old-school console gamers will appreciate, it’s also another excellent budget-friendly choice. Like 8BitDo’s controllers, the Retro Keyboard packs features and specs you’d normally expect on models that cost two or three times as much, at least, including programmable keys and the ability to connect to multiple devices at once via Bluetooth, 2.4Ghz, or wired USB, and hot-swap between them with the press of a switch. The 8BitDo retro mechanical keyboard is currently available in two models, one based on the US NES and the other on the original Japanese Famicom. Both models include the optional Super Buttons attachment, which adds two large, programmable buttons you can use for games, macros, and more. However, 8BitDo is also launching a new model based on the Commodore 64 that adds an arcade stick to the button module, which could make this the ideal keyboard for playing classic arcade and console games on PC.

Keyboard switches, explained

Different types of switches will appeal to different and whether you’re going with a Cherry MX switch like Cherry MX Red or Cherry MX Blue, there are plenty of keyboards worth your time. It can get confusing quickly, especially if you can’t test these keyboards yourself and truly tell the difference with your own fingers. Thankfully, it’s easy to understand exactly what you’ll be getting if you understand the terminology.

First off, linear versus tactile switches keys. Linear means there is no physical feedback mechanism to indicate when a keystroke is registered. It’s smooth, relatively quiet, and preferred for rapidly tapping on keys. Tactile means there is a bump or click to indicate you’ve hit the actuation point; it’s louder, but some prefer having physical feedback for keystrokes. It really comes down to preference. Actuation point is the distance at which a keystroke is registered; a shorter distance means you don’t have to press the key down as far, but can lead to errant inputs. Actuation force is, well, the force needed to press the key down. Of course, there are all the quality-of-life considerations to think about, too, like multimedia keys, whether you want a programmable key row and such.

While Cherry has been the long-time dominant manufacturer of mechanical switches, some gaming peripheral brands have started making their own proprietary mechanical switches for their keyboards, namely Razer and Logitech. For a brief overview of the most common mx switches, see below:

Save Big On Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes On Launch Day

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes launched today, April 23, on consoles and PC. If you’re interested in picking up a copy on PC, you can save 20% on Steam keys at Fanatical. This special launch deal drops the price of the standard edition to $39.49 and the Digital Deluxe edition to $63.19. If you’re an Xbox or PC Game Pass subscriber, you already have access to the game. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers can play the RPG on Xbox and PC. Nintendo Switch players can save 10% on digital copies for a limited time, too.

Developed by Rabbit and Bear Studios, Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is a spiritual successor to the Suikoden series. Announced back in 2020, the project became one of the highest-grossing Kickstarter campaigns ever. Fast forward roughly four years and longtime fans of the cult-classic Suikoden series can finally play it.

Console players on PS5 and Xbox can pick up the standard or Digital Deluxe edition for $50 or $80, respectively. If you’re partial to physical editions, only PS5 and Nintendo Switch versions are being printed outside of Japan. The physical edition for PlayStation 5 is available now, whereas the Nintendo Switch version is up for preorder ahead of its May 21 launch.

Early reception has been largely positive for most platforms, with the PC version currently holding a MetaScore of 79 on GameSpot sister site Metacritic. The PS5 version is sitting at a 76, while the Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch versions only have a handful of recorded reviews at this time. The Xbox Series X version holds a respectable average of 72, but the Nintendo Switch port, based on initial reviews–it holds a 57 MetaScore–has some performance issues that will hopefully be ironed out with post-launch patches. There aren’t any reviews for the PS4 and Xbox One versions, so it’s unclear if performance issues from the Switch version also impact the last-gen Xbox and PlayStation.

With all that said, let’s take a look at where you can pick up the console version of Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes below.

$50-$60

The physical edition is available to purchase for PS5 for $50 at multiple major retailers, including Amazon, Best Buy, and Walmart. Alternatively, you can preorder the physical edition for Switch for $60 ahead of its release next month. The Xbox version does not have a physical edition in the US.

The digital standard edition on consoles is available for $50 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, and PS4. It’s sold as a cross-gen bundle by default, so you get the PS4 and PS5 or Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One editions with your purchase.

Meanwhile, the digital edition for Nintendo Switch is available for a 10% discount until May 8, which drops the price to $45. Yes, the digital version retails for $10 less–and $15 less for a limited time–than the physical edition.

The $80 Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes Digital Deluxe edition comes with the base game on your platform of choice and the following bonus content:

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes Digital Deluxe edition for console is available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Once again, the Digital Deluxe is cross-gen for PlayStation and Xbox platforms. And just like the standard edition, you can save 10% on the Switch eShop until May 8.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is developed by Rabbit & Bear Studios, which was founded by several members of the original Suikoden development team who wanted to continue the legacy of the beloved RPG series. As such, many of Eiyuden Chronicle’s gameplay and story elements will be familiar to Suikoden fans, such as the large cast of 100 party members to recruit, strategic turn-based battle system, and high fantasy setting rife with political conflict. It also features modernized touches like voice acting and a stylized presentation that mixes 2D sprites and high-quality 3D environments similar to Square Enix’s HD-2D style seen in games like Octopath Traveler and Live A Live.

Sadly, Yoshitaka Murayama, the creator of both Eiyuden Chronicle and Suikoden, passed away on February 6 at the age of 54.
